My Hellhole

Graham Ball and Tim Smith

Due to a year of screening Gabriel Small at film festivals and attending numerous meetings regarding budgets for a second feature, very little was done by the Waking Dream team in respects to actual filmmaking throughout 2010. Seeking to rectify this and inspired by Gareth Edwards and his excellent film Monsters, we embarked on My Hellhole, a playground if you will to test out new camera equipment and post production techniques.

It was written in a manner which meant it could be shot with a crew of just three and in a no-nonsense way so it could be completed in a timely fashion. Things didn’t go to plan however, and My Hellhole turned out to be the longest shoot and post production period we have ever spent on a short. The results were worth it though, as we are confident that it is our best looking and sounding film to date.

Filmonik June 2007

Because of the new camera and post production set-ups we have made great leaps in all things visual. One only has to watch one of our past shorts before My Hellhole to see how much richer and more cinematic it looks.
